Microblading Your Eyebrow

Do you crave fuller, darker, eyebrows? Or maybe you just wish they had a better shape or arch? Do you have alopecia (hair loss) that has made your brows nearly non-existent—or perhaps you just over-tweezed? How great would it be to put away your eyebrow pencil and never have to worry about your eyebrows washing off with your makeup at the end of the day?

Full brows are on trend, which is why microblading has become such a popular cosmetic procedure. So, what is it?

Microblading is a semi-permanent makeup procedure that deposits medical grade pigment using a hair-like stroke technique and shading. A pen-like device with teeny tiny needles at the end makes strokes of varying lengths that mimic actual hairs. The skin is delicately scratched to deposit the pigment just below the surface of the skin. (A powerful numbing cream is used beforehand to make sure you barely feel it.) The result is a three-dimensional, natural looking eyebrow that doesn’t come off when it’s time to remove your makeup.

The technique can be used to shape, fill in gaps, or simply define the eyebrows. You’re a candidate whether you have full eyebrows in need of a little definition or reshaping or barely-there brows that could use some oomph.

At your microblading appointment, our nurse practitioner Ashley Pontenberg, will discuss your desired outcome, including the shape, arch, thickness, and color. Ashley has a great deal of training and experience and will make sure your new and improved eyebrows fit your face and frame your eyes perfectly.

Microblading is semi-permanent because it doesn’t place pigment as deeply within the skin as a tattoo does. You can expect your new brows to last anywhere from one to three years but having a touch up within eight weeks is recommended for the most lasting result. Everyone’s body chemistry is slightly different, so longevity varies.

The aftercare for microblading is critical for best results:

  • While you shouldn’t feel much pain during the procedure, your eyebrows may be a bit tender the next day. This can be managed with over the counter pain relievers.
  • Don’t get the area wet for at least a week.
  • Since the surface of your skin was disrupted (essentially scratched), you will see a bit of scabbing. Under no circumstances should you pick at or remove any scabbing or peeling. Let them heal naturally.
  • The treated area may itch a bit as it heals but avoid touching or rubbing at your new brows.
  • Don’t wear makeup for at least a week. The pigments are still settling into your skin, and you don’t want to do anything that might disturb them.
  • Avoid saunas, swimming, and working up too much of a sweat until the area is healed. This usually takes about two weeks.
  • Apply the healing balm Ashley provides you with.

Getting through the initial healing period can take a little patience, but it’s really only a minor annoyance, and at two weeks, your new brows will be healed and looking fabulous. Just think of all the time you will save every. single. morning. when you no longer have to break out the eyebrow pencil! Be sure to make your touch up appointment, so that you get the most lasting result.
